[The owl looked at Keyleth and narrowed his eyes, feathers ruffling, but then he went back to staring at the cats. Cats that Beau couldn't tell apart. Kneeling down, she held her fingers out to the cat on the ground.]
I might be able to scrounge up some fish every now and then for them; I've been meaning to see if there's any decent fishing in the lake anyway. But I'd like them to understand that they aren't allowed on the gambling tables. I don't want a cat jumping up in the middle of the game and a brawl starts because they knocked something over.
[ Sugar stretched his neck out to give Beau's fingers a cautious little sniff, then ducked under it to rub his back along her hand. ]
Did you guys hear that? There's gonna be some cool looking stuff on the tables that aren't toys and you can't play with them. I know, I know--I'll send your favorite toys with you, okay?
[ The cats blinked up at Keyleth, and after a moment or two Keyleth gave Beau a thumb's up. ]
They're cool with it! Especially if there are fish in it for them.
[The cat got a few scritches as he passed under Beau's hand. From up above, there was a low hoot from the owl. Beau cast a look up at him.] Jealous, I see.
[PT hooted again and flew down to land on her shoulder.] Yup, jealous.
[Eyes back to Keyleth and the cats, she was reminded again how fucking weird druids were. Yeah, she was more used to people talking to animals and plants with Caduceus part of the Nein, but she didn't think the cleric expected to get a response back. Yet, Keyleth was clearly getting something in cat-speak back.]
O...kay. I think I'll take them then. I'll need to like... put together some kind of place for them to sleep on the ship since I keep the captain's quarters locked when not there.
[ Sugar accepted the scritches with an arched back and passed under Beau's hand a few times for more, before flopping onto his back and batting playfully at a loose thread hanging from her wraps. Keyleth scritched the top of Salt's head and put him down so he could pounce on his brother and try to catch his tail. ]
Is there a good way for them to get off the ship? Cause if not you're gonna wanna leave them a couple pans full of sand somewhere out of sight and um, smell, to do their business in, and make sure someone cleans it before they leave for the night. It's not hard to get them to use it, just show them where it is. As for a bed, just put something soft in an empty box. They'll use it at least part of the time. They'll sleep anywhere they feel safe.
That won't be an issue; I can put a plank from a gunport to the dock for them since it only needs to be enough to support their weight. Most of the time the two ramps will be set up for them to use, but the plank will at least keep them out from being underfoot if they need to scamper off.
[Beau scooped the cat up with one arm and held him against her chest while eyeing Professor Thaddrus. The owl started down at the cat before nipping the monk's ear and launching himself into the air.
"Ow, you fuck!" Beau checked to see if there was blood but thankfully the owl was just expressing his displeasure about the cats. Eh, he'd get over it; he got over Maaptia and Anya's dog (which Beau still called Fluffy).
"Yeah, come visit. Gamble your gold away while you're at it."
Oh, well, the thing is, I don't have very good luck with casinos.
[Not because she sucks at gambling--she does, but that's not the point--but because she always gets kicked out. Mostly because she keeps trying to game the system (aka, cheat). Sugar decides he'd rather ride on Keyleth's shoulders and crawls up to mew at his brother and then make a small growling noise at the Professor.]
I might! I mean it's not like I'm doing much else with it. I'll have to see if Percy wants to come too. [It's tradition at this point, her and Percy rolling up into casinos arm in arm.
The cats have their own dedicated space in the shelter, and Keyleth gets a little carboard box for transport and starts gathering up the twins favorite toys and little bag of the treats she made for all the animals. The rest of the cats are mostly lazing in patches of sunlight with very little concern, though a few hop down and circle Keyleth's legs while meowing for food.]
[Beau trailed along, petting the cat that she already couldn't remember if it's name was Sugar or Salt. She might have to, like, get one a ribbon or something.]
Everyone's welcome. And I know Percy has plenty of gold to lose too. Vex sometimes comes by.
[You have Salt, Beau. Keyleth is holding Sugar. Maybe get them name tags or different colored collars if you care enough to tell them apart.]
Wow, really? Vex willingly parts with gold? [Are you sure?? Keyleth lets Sugar hang out on her shoulder while she packs up the cardboard box.] Okay, I think that's it.
[She sighs a little and gently coaxes Sugar off of her shoulder so she can give him some cuddles and kisses before she puts him in the box, then holds out her hands to take Salt from Beau and give him the same treatment.] Bye guys. I'm gonna miss you.
Pretty sure Vex thinks she'll win more - sometimes she does - but usually ends up losing what all she brought with her trying to get more. [Like most greedy people that think they can always win.]
[ That probably wouldn't last, as much of a gold hoarder as Vex was. If she looses all of her money what will she and Percy have uncomfortable but expensive sex on top of? Keyleth gives the kitten one last kiss on the top of the head and puts him in the box with his brother (then nudges the one already inside back down as he was attempting to escape) and carefully closes the box up. It has little air holes, don't worry. They'll be fine until Beau gets them to the boat. ]
Well. Here you go. Take good care of them, please.
Definitely. Hopefully the Professor won't too much grief...hopefully they won't do the same to him.
[She grinned.] That's a good idea! Though they won't care what you call them. They're cats. They come when it suits them. You guys be good okay?
[Keyleth stuck her finger into one of the air holes and giggles with delight when it was promptly attacked.] Yeah, this'll work out good. Mice of the ship, beware.
He'll probably be more pissed off than usual until he realizes the cats are staying. I just need to train him that they aren't food. He'll eat anything smaller than him, which can be a pain to deal with. But we'll figure it out.
[Beau chuckled at the giggle and talked to the cats.] Alright, let's vet you to your new home. I don't want you in this box too long.

Most people don't. It's kind of the point of them, you know. Have fun losing your money.
